In the photograph you can enjoy the explosion of color and the unusual brushstroke combinations. The casual brushstroke techniques are so charming and have so much life and energy in them.
Brighter colors and strong contrasts are what have drawn many of us to the Os style of Rosemaling. Os painting is a very ornate floral style. Its colors and style easily complement the modern approach to decorating, particularly eclectic decors. This style was usually done for "gift market traders". Smaller items could easily be sold at the husflidens, shops that sell Norwegian handicraft, and transported by travelers as a gift for those at home. Many of the smaller pieces must have come with immigrants, as a living token or memory of the homeland they were leaving.
