To the central province of Sweden, Darlarna, we go for the inspiration for this rooster, the 4th in our series of rooster folk art styles. The design includes a small "gourd tree" which is a very distinctive motif in this area. The gourd tree was inspired by the biblical account of Jonah falling asleep in the city of Ninevah. God caused a wonderful gourd tree to grow up over him and protect him from the hot sun. The Dala horse, rooster, pig, etc. are carved wooden articles, very happily decorated with stroke work which is made in this area.
