A very beautiful and distinctive style was painted by this artist in the early 1900’s in Germany. A number of other artists in the area copied his style and thus a stylistic regional folk art form was established. The simplicity of the techniques and variations of composition make this a wonderful style to study.
Here we find our early types of shading and highlighting, a limited palette, and this use of home themes all combined in a delightful rustic manner.
