This special plate Jo Sonja painted for her husband, Jerry, who loves whales. It was inspired by Nil’s Rococo Rosemaling.  I’m sure some will wonder whether it is Rosemaling or not, but, if the Telemark painter could combine hunters and bears and rococo Rosemalers included some scenes and an occasional house, then there is no reason why one couldn’t add a ship and a whale.

The original plate was purchased in Norway and it made out of pine.  The plate has been reproduced by Tim Montzka out of basswood.
