Jonah is the prophet who spent three days and nights in the belly of a Big Fish, until he decided to do as God wanted. The story is in the book of Jonah, Old Testament.

The Swedish folk artists in the central province of Dalarna took the idea of the gourd tree from the last chapter and turned it into a wonderful stylized decorative motif. Each artist perfected their own idea of the tree and incorporated it into delightful scenes decorating the walls, and other small items of their homes.

Here, we are decorating a small item with the them and placing gourd trees on the side with beautiful soft seascapes on the inside of the lid (a writing surface) and the back (so it could sit on one's desk).

Topped with an antique reproduction door knob; found at the store, Anthropologie in Boise Idaho, it becomes a very nice decorative piece.
