For years a number of people have been asking me to do a witch. I took the opportunity when painting with Bobbie T. this year of doing a Norwegian version of a kitchen witch. The kitchen witch that has been hanging in my kitchen for the last 40 years is from Norway and she is supposed to keep your pots and pans from burning (not so)! A part of the elves, trolls and other mythological critters come to us from old stories, I believe that she may be related to the Russian Baba Yoga. Baba Yoga rides around in a mortar and pestle and she is followed by her house that travels on chicken legs. What fun to put chicken feet on a stabbur (Norwegian storage house) and to have the witch travel in a mortar. Ashton, her ash-grey cat, loves to join her on her journey.
