A story by Carlo Collodi (1826-1890) about the adventures of a wooden puppet who wishes to become a real boy was the inspiration for the paintings on this piece. Heidi England sent me a translation of the original story and with this inspiration, the piece began.
The great fish, a dog-fish or shark, is a mile long and five stories high and becomes the central figure on the front of the trunk which is sure to thrill a small grandson or great grandson.
