It has been said that there are over 1500 versions of this old fairy tale. One of the most popular is the one told by a French author, Charles Perrault. For inspiration as to the techniques I went to French fan painting styles, using gouche techniques. The combination of gouche (opaque watercolor) techniques and embellishments of gold bring a highly decorative element to the illustrations.
