It was a new world and eventually forms of painting appeared, maybe only a tavern sign or a small chest - but painted decoration was inevitable. Of these, Country tin painting was perhaps one of the most important contributions to the history of American decorative art and began in the latter half of the 18th century. The designs presented in this section were inspired by forms of Early American decorative art.
